Tiki

Queen LaTeacup, or "Tiki" for short, is a beautiful cream and caramel longhaired Chihuahua, weighing in at just under 4 lbs. The shelter vet put her at about 1 years old. Interesting thing is she only has 2 teeth but that does stop her from eating! She was just spayed and is up-to-date on her vaccinations. She came in as a stray to the Palo Alto shelter. She is soooo very sweet, so elegant, and surprisingly not fearful despite her diminutive size. She seems to like most people, kids, other dogs, she hasn’t barked much so far, and she warmed up to me and everyone else she’s met immediately! She’s potty trained (goes on wee pads and outside), walks great on leash (in fact, I think she’d rather walk than be carried) and is fine on stairs. She loves to cuddle in your lap, but if you’ve got work to do, she’s fine hanging out on her own. Her foster mom lives on one of the busiest streets in SF and none of the noises seem to phase her. She would be the perfect dog to take to work with you and a great size if you travel a lot! She is available now from A Leg Up Rescue www.aleguprescue.org.

Cookie

Hi, my name is Cookie. For most of my life (about one and a half years) I've only known to live in a really large group of chihuahuas. I must have been on the bottom of the pecking order, because I tend to be submissive. But in my new foster home, everything is calm and I have really opened up. I love to play with Seymore my foster brother and I love to get hugs and cuddles from my human foster mom. I eat really well. I think I gained 1 pound over the last week. I was really skinny, I must have looked like Twiggy. I go out on walks and don't mind being leash walked. I love my sweater that my foster mom puts on me, otherwise I wouldn't like to walk because I would be freezing in the SF cold. I still need you to make sure to take me out so I learn how to pee and poop outside. I think in my first home I was trained to use a wee wee pad. I am sure I can become a real outgoing dog, but I need some time and a quiet environment where I can feel safe and loved.
Please see our other available dogs at A Leg Up Rescue such as BiBi or Brandi. A Leg Up Rescue must charge an adoption fee which is $200.

If you are interested in adopting, please complete our online adoption application, or please email aLegUprescue@me.com.

Zoey

Zoey is a one year small male Chihuahua that ended up in a shelter (as he was found on the streets as a stray). He is a very sweet little 3 1/2 pound boy and he gets along with cats & dogs. He has the most beautiful markings (red face with freckles and a brown and white body). He needs to gain a little weight as he is thin and he will be available soon after his neuter. If you would like to fill out an application for Zoey please e-mail staceyca@gmail.com
No small children or large dogs please. You must live in Southern CA as we do not adopt out of the area.

Mr. Pickles

Meet Mr. Pickles! He is also known as Mr. Personality! He enjoys shopping, at stores large and small, and a crowd gathers wherever he goes. Who can resist a 4 lb., one year old, long-haired Chihuahua? And this guy is more than just handsome. He's affectionate with his people and bonds quickly. Mr. Pickles can convince the most reticent dog to play with him - and play hard. When he sees something he wants, for instance a new dog to meet and entice into play, he dances on hind legs. In addition to all that good stuff, he's a fast learner and reads people and animals really well. He likes small dogs and even gets along with cats, including those much larger than himself. It's easy to groom Mr. P. - he doesn't seem to mind people's poking around in his ears and mouth or messing with his feet. However, when water is involved he might decide it's time to go outside and play. He's very good on car rides, is house trained, neutered, up to date on vaccinations (as of October 2011), is learning wait and stay, and he barks only to protect his home and people. Mr. Pickles should go to a home where there is at least one other small dog in residence. Because of his small size, only mature children are recommended.

Adoption Pending
Benny is 9lbs of pure "gorgeousness". We think he may be a chi/pomeranian mix. This little red-head is 5 yrs old and just about 9lbs and has the prettiest softest coat. He is a friendly, playful little fellow that enjoys toys and he has a blast playing with other dogs! He can be a little shy at first but within minutes he will warm up and just crawl up on your lap for snuggle. Benny walks nicely on a leash and he is a fan on long hikes, too! Benny loves car-rides and Benny is crate-trained. Meet Benny at The SF Chihuahua Meetup this Sunday at Stern Grove/Pine Lake Dog Park.

Chiquita Banana

Chiquita Banana. Are you ready to fall in love because that is what happens to everyone that meets Chiquita Banana. This 3 yr old chi weighs in at a mere 3.5lbs. She may be small but she is one of the most confident, friendly chis that has crosssed our path! The only dislike of Chiquita's...little children so due to her strong opinions on that topic, she needs to go to a home with mature children. Chiquita is a playful, inquisitive little girl. She enjoys the company of people and is quick to start a game of tag with other little dogs. She is great on the leash! She's also perfect for the person who can bring a dog to work! She has perfect office manners! Meet Chiquita at the SF Chihuahua Meetup this Sunday, Nov 6th at Stern Grove/Pine Lakes Dog Park.

Lexie Adopted October 2011

Lexie is now living the good life in her new forever home.

Lexie is a beautiful female dark grey and caramel colored Chihuahua mix, about 3 years young and approximately 9-10 lbs. She looks to be well fed and she’s in great health. She just came to us from Sacramento as a stray so we are just getting to know her. I can say that she is a little skittish and fearful, but she does NOT nip at you, just runs away, but as soon as you catch her and hold her in your arms, she calms down and melts into you. She seems to get along with all types of dogs (we don’t know about cats yet), and so far appears to be potty trained! She is fantastic on a leash, doesn’t pull at all, and she is fine walking in the rain too. She is up to date on shots and will be spayed prior to adoption. I think she would be fine in a home with other dogs or as an only dog. Once she realizes she is safe and loved, she will blossom. I don’t think she is a barker either – haven’t heard her bark yet! If you are looking for a sweet, loyal, unique dog to shower with love and affection, Lexie is your girl.

Ellie - update

11/2/2011 update: Ellie is on a sleep over with a potentially adoptive family. Fingers crossed this goes well and Ellie can be officially adopted. Please check back early next week to see what happens!

Ellie is a beautiful chocolate & white chi/terrier mix. She has quite an under bite and very soft fur. She is a younger lady, perhaps a year old. She has a birth defect; her back legs have no hip sockets, one leg curls under her but the other leg works fine. The deformed leg has been amputated and she now gets around great. This little girl can walk over a mile, goes up and down stairs like a champ and wrestles and plays like the young dog that she is. Her spirit is wonderful. She can be a bit fearful in the beginning but is eager to be friends. She plays hard with her fellow foster dogs. They are so much fun to watch. Ellie loves stuffed toys and hard chews. She uses wee wee pads, is great in the car and good on leash. She is very loving, likes to cuddle and kiss. Ellie is currently living with several dogs her size and cats. She will be a wonderful friend. Ideally she would love to live with another small dog. Gentle and mature children should be fine. She is a very sweet little lady. Like all of our dogs, Ellie is spayed, microchipped, and current on all vaccines.

Crissy is a courtesy posting for Muttville Senior Dog Rescue.

Tripod Crissy is about 1 yrs old. She was hit by a car and had her leg amputated up to her shoulder. She had to recover at the shelter (not hospital) for 2 weeks. She is very spunky and loves to wrestle. Crissy is a total snuggle bug who loves to sleep under the covers right next to you. She is responding very well to her manner and potty training. She loves to go for car rides. Crissy is sweet, beautiful and agile. Will Crissy become a part of your family?

Chubby Choo September 2011

Chubby Choo was born around 6/16 and currently weighs about 3 pounds. He is a tiny little nugget with a big spirit! He loves to play with other dogs, and bark to get your attention. He is funny, spunky, and quite the little love bug. He could spend half of the day just sitting in your lap or snuggling. We "think" he is a mix of Chihuahua and Jack Russell Terrier. He may be around 10-12 pounds when full grown. Chubby Choo could really use a great foster home while he awaits an adoptive home. If you would like to foster or adopt, please fill out the application.
